Cultural Festival of India in Brazil - Kathak Dance

Over the past two weeks, the Embassy of India in Brasilia and the Friends of India Association with the support of the Consulates General AH of India in Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais and the India Brazil Chamber of Commerce have held the special Festival of India to spread Indian culture and teachings in the country and commemorate the 150th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.


The first part of the festival began on September 24th in São Paulo with the opening of the tour of Pragati Sood Anand, a group specializing in Kathak dance, typical of North India. Each dancer carries foot bells totaling 2kg each. The dance symbolizes with the movements and expressions Indian stories.


The performances followed in the cities of Belo Horizonte (25/09) and Rio de Janeiro (29/09), reaching an audience of around 1,000 people who knew more about India and were thrilled with Kathak.
